If you read this, Mr. Newman, I must say I am impressed. Anyways, to the point. Im a 17-yr old senior in high school, and although I didnt know who you were until a few months ago, I have found we have strikingly odd similarities, haha. When I wrestled varsity for my high school, my coach nicknamed me "Cool Hand Luke" because of my tenacious spirit. As a result, I rented your movie and found it to be not only an inspiration, but a metaphor for my persistant attitude that occasionally gets me in trouble. The other thing is my 93 240 Classic wagon, only 1600 ever made. My goal is to put a 5 liter HO in it, you know what im talking about. When I was told you had a "Volv8" as Converse calls them, I was duly impressed. You are now my favorite actor simply because your style with that Volvo. I am saving my pennies for that conversion in my car, but have barely scratched the surface of that expense. Any suggestions from the coolest man alive? Gwrestler03@aol.com

I would like to post the following message for a friend of mine who does not have access to the internet: We are facing losing our mobile home and car, due to my first having kidney cancer and now bone cancer. My wife, Frannie, has been blind from birth. I had continued to work even while having radiation and chemo treatments but was let go from my security guard job after a severe pain attack at work. I am 67 years old but my small social security check does not cover the mobile home payment, lot rent and other living expenses. We don’t have any mortgage life insurance protection or any other life insurance. Frannie had been able to earn some money for us during the holidays by playing the keyboard at a local store which has now gone out of business and she hasn’t had any luck getting anyone else to hire her. Well, I watched "Road to Perdition" last night , the latest Paul Newman movie , were he PLAYS a character even worse than the bankrobber in "where the money is". Don't you just love the man??? Mr. Newman, In 1968 you made a movie called Winning.This movie carries a special place in my heart. The Can-Am car which you drove in the opening scene belonged to my father, Ralph Salyer. The car was campaigned in 1968 and 1969 in the Can-Am series with drivers Charlie Hayes and Joe Leonard. It has been my good fortune to meet every driver of my fathers cars except you. I attended the Runoff's this past weekend at Mid-Ohio but was not able to get close enough to introduce myself properly, you have quite a following at these events. Mr Newman, I am writing on behalf of the girls scouts of Tribal Trails Girl Scout Council. The council has decided to sell a wonderful camp of 140 prime acres of land. This camp has a lodge, rangers house, nurses quarters, stables and a riding ring, a pond where the girls swim, camping for over 100 girls, many hiking trails and riding trails, and a water falls. The council has decided that it is too expensive to save this camp. They have turned down volunteers and the communities of 7 counties to help with the upkeep of the camp. A group of members of the scouts and past members have filed suit against the council. We have taken it to the court of appeals in Indiana. Right now there is a stay of the sale. But we need support from everyone we can get. This is fight worth fighting. The land offers so much for the girls now and in the future. This land was donated in 1945 in trust to the girls from the Kowanis in Kokomo in Indiana. Tribal Trails was not even in existance then. What we have found out is that the National Girls Scouts has turned into a money making business instead of what it was intened for by Juliette Lowe, the founder of Girl Scouts. I get sick when I hear of peoples property stolen , damaged , and even lives lost from such a preventable problem as car theft. I have looked at many vehicle security devices and there weakness, and endeavored to build a device that is easy to install and also user friendly, and very difficult to remove. I have built prototypes, and have used one on my vehicle for three years even in big cities, and always felt comfortable that my car would always be there where I parked it. I also installed one on an old truck in an auto wreaker and it took three big men 4min. 56 seconds to remove it, only by braking the floorboard because of too ridged a base. This has since been redesigned to be flexible. It was encouraging to see one person could not remove it. It is loose enough installed, that it cannot be cut with a hacksaw, since it is made with good strong steel. The lock cannot be frozen because it is incased with steel and a small air space. These men ! tried with hammers and feet to remove it and only exhausted themselves. Since joy rides and theft of vehicles for the purpose of committing a crime are the main reasons for general auto theft, I know this will be a very good and secure type of vehicle theft deterrent. I have a U.S. patent and applied for an international patent with the help of a company in Ireland, who have done up for me a confidential research report, on North America, and Europe and are at this time trying to find manufactures all around the world that would be interested in building this device that I call "Brake Lock. There is some simple electronics that serve as a trade mark, as well as takes care of the brake light problem. I recently have had interest from England and Illinois and hope to get a positive response from them. Auto theft is a huge problem everywhere. I know it will make a difference. But it will only make a difference if people will use it. Mr Newman, I thank you for inadvertantly introducing me to the world of motorsports through a used car. Please allow me to elaborate. When I lived in Japan I bought an '83 Skyline that bore your signature as an option. Over there, to describe this car to somebody, all I needed to do was say that I owned a "Newman". Those that are interested in cars in Japan know and respect this car, even to this day. There is not much written history on this model that I could find during my stay which was for over four years. I would be very grateful if you could educate me on your involvement with Nissan in the early 80's. Most especially what ever input you had with this particular model.

Before this I purchased this vehicle, a car was just for A to B usage. Since that, it's never been the same. Angels of Death Flourish In Hospice - Four Families Report. Hospice Advocacy Group Initiates Letter Writing Campaign 1/25/01

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - January 8, 2001 - The Hospice Patients Alliance has received credible reports about patients being killed in the hospice setting. Four families have come forward to publicly protest the untimely death of their loved ones and seek government intervention to save patients' lives. These patients and their families expected to receive compassionate care promoting a death with dignity. Instead, they report that the "Angels of Death" hastened the death of their loved ones Research summarized in medical journals (see below) suggests that many hundreds and possibly thousands of patients in the U.S. may be euthanized without their permission.

One common method of hospice style euthanasia is to sedate the patient into a medically-induced coma and then either shut down the breathing through the over-administration of a narcotic like morphine or let the patient die of dehydration while in the prolonged coma (known as "terminal sedation"). A second method is to withhold needed care to treat an infection, letting the patient die of massive systemic infection. A decision to sedate and overdose is a decision to kill. A decision not to treat is a decision to create a situation in which the patient will die sooner than expected from a terminal illness.

When patients receive a terminal diagnosis, physicians often recommend hospice care as a way of assuring a "death with dignity." However, patients cannot be sure whether they will be cared for or hastened to an untimely death. The resistance of some patients to be placed in hospice is in many cases due to their gut intuition that they may be euthanized rather than cared for ... and they would be correct in some hospice settings.

The US Office of Inspector General and state enforcement agencies confirm that chronically ill patients are sometimes fraudulently enrolled in hospices. In some cases, these chronically ill patients may be terminated after they have served as revenue sources for the hospices.

While major hospice lobbying groups and agency organizations publicly deny that there are major problems in the industry, the Hospice Patients Alliance continues to receive complaints from the public about abominable hospice care. Privately, physicians and hospice staff may be aware of the problems, but assure the public that such problems "are rare."

Nationwide Letter-Writing Campaign Begun

Hospice Patients Alliance has initiated a nationwide letter writing campaign to protest involuntary euthanasias and to encourage prosecution of those who terminate the life of a vulnerable patient. Involuntary euthanasia is the medical killing of a patient without the patient's permission and in some cases without the patient's knowledge. Medical killing of patients is illegal in every state, however prosecutors have shied away from bringing charges when the killing occurs in a hospice setting. If prosecutors do not act for crimes committed in hospice settings, then hospice may become the "killing field" where unwanted chronically ill can be terminated or where criminals may have a license to kill (with no consequences). Some of the families have reported that their loved one's medical records were falsified by the hospices.

This campaign is not about physician-assisted suicide which would involve terminating a patient's life at the patients request. This is about the obviously illegal killing of patients against their will, ... patients who in some cases begged to be allowed to live and not be euthanized!

The letter writing campaign will begin on January 25th after the the new U.S. administration is in place. The goal is to reform the health care system to stop such medical killings from occurring and especially to improve hospice care for all. District Attorneys in California, southern Georgia and Maryland Monitored

Hospice Patients Alliance is carefully monitoring developments involving the four bereaved families that have approached local district attorneys for a fair and impartial investigation of the alleged medical killings of their loved ones. In Santa Ana and Los Angeles counties in California, Wayne County in Southern Georgia, and Anne Arundel County in Maryland, families report that local District Attorneys have not yet charged anyone in the alleged killing of their loved ones ... even though in some cases, many months have passed by with no action by the DAs. Whether political "strings" will be pulled by the hospices to block police from doing a full and impartial investigation in these cases remains to be seen.

This is in vain, knowing Newman will never read this, yet I cannot constrain my passion.

I'm sitting here finishing up a U of Mn. grad paper on Convergence and the Entertainment Society. It's a comprehensive exploration into how the entertainment and technology industries are merging to morph an Information Society into an Entertainment Society...blah, blah, blah.

I've been in the entertainment industry all my life mostly as a songwriter and musician and frankly still haven't made it. But still, I'm a pretty smart guy. And all my life I've had many a hero in film and music, but no one shines in my universe like the star of Paul Newman.

Here is a man who, by all accounts, throughout his life had the looks by which all other men are measured by. It's a common joke for many men when referring to how they might look going out for a Saturday Nite to say, "How do I look," with the concommitant response, "Almost as good as Paul Newman."

The point is Paul Newman could very well be the most vain man on the planet. But he is so far from it, well, here comes the hero part.

You see, in my grad work I also wrote a paper on designing a Global Ethic. Despite it's profound title it has yet to gain much attention, yet I remain dedicated to the advancement thereof.

And to up the ante, I'm also a vegetarian who reads labels adamantly.

So, combine entertainment, global ethic and all natural and I can be pretty demanding when it comes to what celebrities do with their money and fame. Combine these elements and you get Paul Newman.

Newman serves as a model of which all other entertainers are measured by. He took fame and glory--not to mention looks and charm--and used it as a tool to make this world one hell of a better place.

Sure there are many other heroes, although not enough. But in such illustrious company, and given his stature in show biz, Newman's light shines just a bit brighter. I really don't think he does what he does because it's some mission he's on. I really think he does it from his heart.

Everytime I go to the grocery store, there he is...Newman the farmer. According to a jar of marinara, over $100 million has gone to charities and foundations. And he's doing it with an all natural product.

Then he turns around and provides a retreat for chronically-ill children. Then he goes and makes a phenomenal movie (I don't think he's ever made a bad one). Then he comes back and repeats the giving cycle.

When I was a kid I tried to eat as many eggs as possible. I got to maybe, five. This man has been tremendously influential to me all my life. He gives a new meaning to the drive for success. If I make it big (or even small), I hope the Newman angel is standing over me and makes me do good things. Newman taught me that success is a tool to make this world a better place.

Like saddles to ride with, and carts that they can roll their wheelchairs up into, and basically, everything they would need to take care of their pony. Our goal is to be able to provide EVERY necessity AND the pony, to these children at NO COST to their families. PLUS, we hope to build an "HSF - Interactive Center" for those who cannot have a pony "at home" with them, like children who may live in Apartment housing, or in "city limits” where ponies are not allowed. At this Interactive Center, we also will provide FREE Training to ALL ponies, even those that do get to go live at home with children, so they will be ready to ride or drive for kids to enjoy them.

There are many "Equine Therapeutic Riding Services" out there, but the majority of them are so expensive, that only a select few can afford to give their kids the benefits of Equine Therapy. They are so bogged with medical bills and priorities of providing Physical Therapy, and such, that they just cannot afford to provide Equine Therapy too. We will strive to reach EVERY child who is in need of the benefits from Equine Therapy, AT NO COST to their families. It is our hope that this Celebrity event will become an Annual event, allowing a financial future to enable the ability to provide these services for a LONG time!

The How Small Foundation already has a long list of children requesting their needs, such as special carts for wheelchairs, and harnessing, and saddles for riding with leggings for handicapped children to be able to ride and/or drive their ponies. One little girl is blind, and so wants to ride her pony. She needs a special belt with safety handles, so she can be tethered and can ride safely in her arena without the hand assistance of her parents. It is wish to be able to get this belt so she can ride her pony. We hope to raise the funds to be able to get her a special belt for this! There are others too!

At our farm, Seminole Wind Acres, and many other Volunteer Farms Nationwide, we offer FREE Equine Therapeutic Visits with several children in special need. One of which is an Autistic boy that is literally learning to SPEAK, in Full Collective Sentences! His parents hope to get him a pony of his own soon. Complete with a simple harness so that he can try to collect his motor skills as well, in the task of harnessing and un-harnessing his pony. (With his daddy's help, till he can do it on his own.) This autistic boy, already says "Pretty pony runs fast", over and over. It is a MAJOR step for him!

It is such a heartwarming experience to be able to help these kids! We have another boy who has a painful skin disease. He comes to visit our ponies for therapy visits, and all he wants is to "pet" his pony and "brush" her every day...This boy, doesn't actually have "his pony" as yet, but we hope to have HIS pony special for him soon, from PPL! When we do, the How Small Foundation will be giving him all the brushes and grooming gloves he desires! Plus, his parents said he speaks of that he would like to drive his pony someday, so we hope to get him a cart and harness too! His Mother says, when he's out there with "his pony", he forgets how much his skin hurts.

This is just to mention a couple of children in need here in our local Winter Garden, Orange County, Florida area. There are SO MANY NATIONWIDE, and we hope to help them all as we learn of their needs! We recently took these children, and their families, where their stories were told in a TV taping in Palm Beach/Okeechobee, Florida. The NBC News Station there, (Channel 5), was kind enough to do a special segment for the work that the How Small Foundation & Personal Ponies, Ltd. are doing. It aired on Thanksgiving Day, just a few short weeks ago. We can provide you a copy of this taping if you wish.

This Celebrity Miniature Harness Race Event is set to take place on Saturday, April 7, 2001, with an alternate rain date on Sunday, April 8, 2001. The location is Spring Garden Ranch Raceway of DeLeon Springs, Florida, in Volusia County. The people at these facilities are helping every step of the way to make this a successful event as we hope it becomes an Annual event! They are well equipped for a large turn out, as we hope to accomplish.

Those of us within the How Small Foundation, are not professional conglomerates. This organization is literally starting at ground zero in efforts and we are really learning as we go as far as how to structure an event such as this. All our efforts have been completely out of pocket for us, and we do not have the funds for advertising.
